I Can Build Us a Home Elsewhere was my senior project for New York University’s Integrated Design and Media program.

The project is about a childhood spent elsewhere and the process of forgetting it. Each print depicts various symbols and objects from my childhood, in a colorful yet faded style, with hand lettering and scribbly fonts. The manner in which the prints are presented hopes to evoke a comforting and familiar yet foreign and forgotten place.

The exhibition consisted of a room decorated with various pieces I’ve fabricated, such as a programmed LED light and lampshade, cushions and various decorative pieces. The main objects on exhibit were 13 prints and a 5-minute video.

The prints, each one designed for and printed with a Risograph printer, a manual printing process resembling screen printing. During my time at NYU, I worked at the Experimental Printing Lab, teaching students how to operate and design for the Risograph, and I had the wonderful opportunity to use the printer whenever I felt like it! The process of iteration, printing, and very frequent maintenance grew my passion for designing physical media.
